A new, enhanced version of the website is currently in development and is due to be available this summer. This will include many improvements and benefits to make searching for your bus stop easier. Please keep checking this site for updates of when this will be available.
What is the NextBusBristol system?
The NextBusBristol system tracks buses through a global positioning satellite (GPS) navigation system and provides the departure times of your bus.
Improvements to the website
A working group has been set up to look at ways to improve and upgrade the current website. One aspect we’re looking at is to improve the functionality of the map, and make it easier to navigate around; a google map interface is currently being proposed. News of future upgrades, including timescales, will be publicised on this site.
Increasing number of real time predictions
The system is monitored on a regular basis to determine the number of bus journeys being tracked. The more journeys tracked, the greater the proportion of predictions on the internet and at bus stop displays, and the better the service is.
We will also be undertaking extensive monitoring of the quality of the real time predictions. This is seen as fundamental to the success of the system. Please see “Why do I not get a predicted departure time for my bus service” in FAQ’s for further information.
Installing on-street displays
Bristol City Council has an ongoing programme of increasing the number of displays at bus stops. There are currently 120 displays, showing real time departure information for buses.
Greater Bristol Bus Network
Bristol City Council, South Gloucestershire Council, North Somerset Council, and Bath & North East Somerset Council are awaiting confirmation from the Department for Transport on a joint bid to improve public transport across the four authorities over the next five years.
The bid includes the further expansion of the real time information system across more bus services, the installation of more displays, and setting up an SMS and WAP service. More information on the bid can be found at http://www.westofengland.org/site/JointLocalTransportPlan_2867.asp
